The other day my dad and I were talking about what first came to mind when we thought of Peace Corps. We both agreed it was something like this guy: a Vietnam-era peace-sign-wavin do-gooder.

It's too bad our image of hardcore do-gooders is locked on an image forty years old. Things are changing though, I can see the image of modern-day hippies moving towards something like these guys below. Just Al and the mac guy, not tubby PC guy. He's boring. As for the image of Peace Corps do-gooders? We will see.

Here's the budget/personnel of US Military vs Peace Corps, 2006:
Military - $442B
PC - $320M
Military personnel - 2,700,000
Peace Corps personnel - 7,749

The US Military is 1400 times larger than the Peace Corps, in dollars and 350 times larger in personnel. I know we gotta defend ourselves and yeah we're in a war, but I mean.... come on.
