A set of tools

Integration means many things,
From a social perspective, it means being able to make friends in a different community,
From a developmental perspective, it means gaining a voice to gather people for a community event,
From an inspirational perspective, it means breathing life into an otherwise abject situation.

Every perspective brings on new challenges.
Every challenge must be taken on with a set of tools.
My set of tools is a series of lame ‘if’ statements.

If cultural sensitivity was measured in pounds, I hope I’m overweight
If being a boring teacher was like a hot day, I hope I’m a cold bath
If jobs grow on trees, I plan on buying the farm
If Cape Verdean culture has tough skin, I hope to bring my lotion
If Cape Verde was my mother, I hope to make her proud.
