Invisible Children
I was just fiddling around google video last night and came on this little film project a few young dudes from California made. It's about the war going on in Uganda. Basically these rebel guys who hate the government abduct children and turn them into soldiers when they're between 8-14 or so. The movement is to raise awareness, ideas and money from people to get these kids an education. Excellent film if you got an hour. I might have shed a tear with that boy in the end. Oops... I've said too much. Very smooth website too. Check out the trailer here: http://www.invisiblechildren.com/theMovie/media/index.php?mediaID=1646005926
Also a bit of news on Internet radio I heard the other day. The people who are in charge of royalties are looking to raise the price of licensed music to radio stations to $.08/per song/per listener. This will put Internet radio stations like somafm and my fav pandora, out of commission. The record companies are pretty thickheaded not to realize that these little guys help them out by exposing their artists, but thats modern-day business fo ya. Let me now introduce Amiestreet.com. A homegrown website by three guys from Rhode Island who had an idea. They always liked small artists and wanted a way to make them some cash and get them heard. If you are looking for some cool music or looking to promote your band, throw your stuff on this site. Prices for songs go range from $.00, thats free, to $.95 per song. Prices are adjusted to how many people have bought/listened to the song, it starts from scratch. Brilliant! Pick up your freakin guitar or throw them your change. I'm hooked on the funk.
American Idol is the TV show that has brought my parents and I together over the past few weeks. My father and I were ashamed of ourselves at first, but either cheezy pop culture has successfully flooded our head or the pure reality of the show has kept us glued. That night they brought on Diana Ross to give a few tips to the contestants. She had some words that stuck with me... she said something to the effect of, 'When you're singin, I feel like you're trying to be somebody you're not, keep it in the heart, keep it close and your voice will shine.' Hmm. Also, 'look at the audience, don't close your eyes when you sing. Make eye contact with them and you will connect with where it is you're trying to go.'
Are these deep thoughts or just some common knowledge thats been overlooked?
